Workspaces & Projects
Choose the correct organizational and project context before loading, saving, or sharing work.
Your workspace and project answer two different questions: who owns the work, and which body of work it belongs to. Confirm both before you load customer data or save a viewer session.
Workspace and project at a glance
| Context | Purpose | Where you switch it | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workspace | Represents a company, laboratory, or your personal context | The workspace switcher in the account area | Members, roles, teams, projects, and organization settings |
| Project | Groups related scientific work inside the workspace | The project selector in the viewer's top bar | The project-scoped structures, trajectories, sessions, and stories you can open or save |
The project selector does not switch you to a different company or laboratory. If you need to move between organizations, switch the workspace first.
Workspace types
Personal workspace
Your personal workspace is private to your account and is created automatically when personal workspaces are enabled for your organization. Use it for individual exploration that does not need team access.
Team workspace
A team workspace represents a company or laboratory. It can contain members, roles, teams, and multiple projects. Access is controlled by your workspace role and by any project-specific access assigned to you.
Some enterprise accounts are organization-only. In that case, you may not have a personal workspace; this is expected and does not limit your access to assigned team projects.
Switch workspaces safely
Switching workspaces changes your organizational context. If an expected project is not available, first confirm that you selected the correct workspace, then ask an administrator to verify your membership or project access.
Switch projects in the viewer
Do not use a project as a temporary label. It is an access and ownership boundary for project-scoped work. If you are unsure which project to use, confirm with the project owner before saving.
Access and roles
Your ability to view or change work depends on both levels:
- Your workspace role controls organization-wide administration.
- Your project role controls what you can do inside a specific project.
- Access may be granted directly or through a team.
If you can see a workspace but not a project, the most likely cause is project access rather than a sign-in problem. See Projects and Roles & permissions for the complete model.
Seats
A seat is a member slot in a team workspace. Each active member occupies one seat. Seats affect whether more members can join; they do not determine which project an existing member can access.
A reliable preflight check
Before each customer-facing review, confirm these items in order:
- The signed-in account is yours.
- The active workspace is the correct organization.
- The active viewer project is the correct engagement or research project.
- The item you plan to open or save has a clear, descriptive name.
